Want the secret to longer lasting youthful looking skin?
The answer is simpler than you think, it breaks down to 2-factors: How hard you live (lifestyle), and What you put in your body. This all sounds very cliché, however, when I was taking a Theatrical Make-up Class in college we really focused on the aging process. Basically the 2-factors listed above can affect how you age and how it will ultimately affect your skin. Sun-lovers,stress, alcohol, smoking, sleep, and genetics all play a big part in the breakdown of your skin. Here are some tips and tricks to aid in slowing down the aging process and possibly even reversing some of the damage
I cannot stress enough the major role water plays in the appearance of your skin. It not only hydrates and provides necessary nutrients, but is also acts as a plumping and glow agent to your skin. We all loathe cellulite…water also helps diminish the appearance of dimpling. Aim for at least 1oz per pound. So for example if you weigh 150lbs, aim to drink 150oz. This can be a challenging task, a great way to start is by purchasing a water bottle that holds 48oz or more, and partially freezing it so it stays cold. Add lemon, lime, mint, or cucumber for a little zest. This will ease the hassle of ensuring your getting in your daily need.
We all get tired and lazy, but washing your face 2-3x a day (depending on your PH balance & lifestyle) is crucial to removing sweat and make-up which can clog pores. Washing your face should be like brushing your teeth..a must! On a daily basis upon waking, after working out, before bed these are times which are most definitely necessary. There are so many cleansers on the market, perhaps you don’t know which one is right for you.
TONE & MOISTURIZE
At a younger age I would just wash my face, it wasn’t until I started repping for a cosmetic company that I fully understood how import it is to use toner and moisturize daily. Toner removes all the dirt, oil, and grime that your face wash didn’t get. Followed by properly moisturzing. Why is a moisturizer so important? Using moisturizer has proven benefits for the skin over the long haul. Hydration is what allows skin to function at peak performance. Skin cells in this condition can rapidly repair themselves and turnover fresh cells, which means huge anti-aging benefits down the road. In this study from the British Journal of Dermatology, those who used moisturizer were found to develop wrinkles at a fraction of the rate of those with dry skin (birchbox). There are so many varieties on the market. Sometimes because our skin changes throughout seasons, aging, exposure, etc..trial of different kinds can be beneficial to finding out what works the best for your skin.
GET YOUR GLOW ON
30minutes of donating a little sweat to the fitness gods can pay off more than one way. Sure, most of exercise to stay fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but getting the blood pumping can seriously benefit your complexion. By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. “Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin,” says Ellen Marmur, MD, author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman’s Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin and associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. So go ahead and don’t be afraid to sweat a little.
