Essential Oil Skincare DIY Recipes

I promised I would share some recipes for my favorite Skin/Essential Oil DIYs, so here they are!

Beauty Elixir

This recipe is a dupe for the Caudalie Beauty Elixir.  This spray is meant to be hydrating, refreshing, invigorating, and can be used multiple times a day.  For this recipe, purchase a 2 ounce aluminum or glass spray bottle.  I purchase a lot of my supplies on Amazon.

1 ounce distilled water

.25 ounce rose water

.25 ounce witch hazel

5 drops peppermint EO

10 drops Myrrh EO

10 drops Lavender EO

10 drops Rosemary EO

10 drops Orange EO

5 drops Neroli EO

5 drops Rose EO

1/4 tsp. organic vegetable glycerin

1/4 tsp. organic aloe vera gel

after essential oils are dropped in, fill to the bottom of the neck of the bottle with distilled water.  Put the spray cap on, shake well, and then spritz  on face liberally.

Beauty Oil/Serum

Handmade and blended face oils are my favorite!  For this lightweight serum/oil, I used Organic Rosehip Oil as a base.  I used a 1 ounce glass dropper bottle, dropped in essential oils first, then filled the bottle to the top with the rosehip oil.

*almost* 1 oz. organic rosehip oil

20 drops frankincense EO

20 drops lavender EO

20 drops patchouli EO

10 drops blue tansy EO

I apply just a few drops of this oil to my face or into my moisturizer, AM & PM for an extra luminous glow.

My favorite source for essential oils is Young Living.  Their Seed to Seal promise resonates with my belief system.  They own and co-op with their own farms and farmers, and are passionate about organic and sustainable farming ❤️

Spring Skin Must-Haves

I have recently changed up my skin care regimen and wanted to share some of my new spring favorites.  I love the new Mangosteen + Lactic Acid products from Eminence, the Young Living Essential Oils Art Renewal Serum, and some new DIY skincare recipes.  I thought it would be fun to share with you today!

Mangosteen + Lactic Acid

The new cleanser and concentrate from Eminence smell amazing and work even better!  These products work for all skin types, except severe and cystic acne.  The ingredients work to gently exfoliation skin, resurface the texture, and reduce pore size.  Literally, these cover every skin concern I have.  I’ve been using these products consistently for 2+ weeks and have noticed an improvement in skin texture and pore size already.  I use the cleanser just at night to remove my makeup and cleanse, and I use the concentrate twice a day.  In the morning, I use the mangosteen concentrate on clean skin, and add the Young Living Art Renewal Serum over top, and wear that as my moisturizer and makeup primer.  This will work great for me during the spring and summer since I have oily skin and don’t need a heavy moisturizer.

Marine Flower Peptide Eye Cream

This is hands down our most popular eye cream.  It has far surpassed any other we’ve ever had in terms of popularity and results.  The first time I tried a sample of it, I literally said, “Oooooooh” out loud.  The product is thick, creamy, and goes on silky smooth, like buttah….literally.  The eye cream soaks in quickly, leaves the undereye area feeling extremely hydrated and plump, while improving fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness.  It’s the perfect eye product!  I use this twice a day – am & pm.

Bright Eyes Serum

This is a DIY product that I make, so I thought I’d share the recipe and the reason I use the ingredients.  First, I use a 5mL rollerball with with a metal rollerball.  I like to use Organic Argan or Jojoba or a combination of both because, in my opinion, these are the best oils for skin.  The lipid molecule is small, and easily absorbable, and these oils mimic natural oils produced by the body.  I also like to add a super generous amount of Frankincense, because it’s THE MOST ANTI-AGING essential oil.  It can be applied NEAT, which is directly to skin without dilution, or diluted.  Then, i add just a few drops of Cypress.  Cypress aids in circulation and lymphatic movement in the body, so it will help with dark circles under the eyes.   I love to use this product as an extra level of hydration and anti-aging protection.  My undereyes get extremely dry and dehydrated, and it’s one of my main tells when I’m tired and dehydrated.  Here’s the rest of the recipe:

5 drops Cypress

40-60 drops Frankincense

Fill with a high-quality carrier oil, like Organic Argan or Jojoba, or a combination of both

ART Renewal Serum

This is a new to me product from Young Living.  I had some Essential Rewards points to spend, and I was intrigued with the ingredients, so I decided to try it.  This serum is both a skin care serum and a great mineral makeup primer.  It is lightweight, yet hydrating, and the exotic ingredients include snow lotus, astragalus, orchid flowers, myrrh, and frankincense – to name a few.  My skin gets oilier at the first sign of spring all the way through summer and into fall.  I always like to lighten up my moisturizer, but I don’t want to sacrifice ingredients or anti-aging benefits, which is why this is a perfect solution.  I like to apply the Mangosteen Concentrate and then one pump of this layered over top.

DIY Beauty Elixir Spray and Beauty Oil Serum

I’ve had an itch to create a custom, aromatherapy skin toner/hydration spray lately.  I’ve been doing a lot of research about what’s on the market.  I didn’t really want this to be astringent, or deep cleansing.  I really wanted a product that could be invigorating, tingly, have skin benefits, and also could set mineral makeup.  I found a product by Caudalie called Beauty Elixir, but it was not organic.  Then I decided to try to recreate it.  So far, I love the results.  I made a large 4 ounce bottle of this because I planned on spraying several times throughout the day.  Look for a future blog post with this recipe.

The other product I wanted to try was a new skin oil/serum recipe that contains Blue Tansy essential oil.  I am gaga over Blue Tansy and its many skin benefits and emotional balancing properties.  I can’t claim this is my own recipe, but I did find a recipe that I wanted to try, and I will share this along with the recipe for the Beauty Elixir spray in an upcoming post.

In the meantime, if you’re curious about essential oils and want to try some DIY recipes, join our Essential Oil Wellness team.  I try to share all my favorite recipes, tips, tricks, and education in our members Facebook group too.  I can’t really live without essential oils anymore.  The new starter kit recently got updated…you’ll receive 11 oils, samples of our antioxidant-rich Ningxia Red, and the new Desert Mist Diffuser – it diffuses up to 10 hours.  Join my team this month and get a deluxe travel size of the Beauty Oil Serum and experience the wonders of Blue Tansy.

Our Newest Eminence Organics Products

Have you tried the new MicroGreens collection from Eminence?  I haven’t been this excited about a product collection probably since the Strawberry Rhubarb products.  I very rarely bring home an entire new collection of products, but I am such a fan of these!  Let me start out by saying that unless you have extreme cystic acne, you can definitely use the Cleansing Oil.  Some days I like to use it as a first cleanse.  Other days, if my skin feels dry or dehydrated, and I get to take a long, luxurious bath and give myself a facial, I’ll use it as my only cleanser, and go ahead and layer some Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant over top of it and let the steam from the bath steam up my skin and my pores.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Stone Crop Cleansing Oil

Infused with moisturizing sunflower and jojoba oils, brightening stone crop and supercharged microgreens, this light and luxurious formula gently removes makeup and deeply cleanses to deliver dewier, softer looking skin after every use. … Wet face to emulsify oil, if desired, and rinse thoroughly.  I cannot tell you enough how good this feels on the skin and how good it smells.

Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant

This powder-to-foam exfoliant employs microgreens, stone crop and rice flour with adzuki powder to infuse skin with a youthful looking glow. With its light fizzing action, this revitalizing formula gently invigorates the skin and removes impurities to reveal a beautiful, brighter looking complexion.  When you add just a few drops of water to the fizzofoliant powder, it immediately starts to fizz. The gentle grit of this product feels amazing on the skin!  And, it really brings up oxygen to the skin, helps get rid of oil and dirt in pores, and is perfect to use 2-3 times a week!

Lotus Overnight Detoxifying Treatment

Wake up to revitalized and radiant looking skin. Infused with hydrating lotus, potent microgreens and moisturizing melt-in jojoba oil beads, this lightweight gel cream prevents transepidermal water loss, supercharges the skin and defends against drying environmental stressors overnight.  Suitable for all skin types, this luxurious treatment seals in moisture to reveal a perfectly dewy complexion by morning.  This is a light formula and can be worn day and night, and is perfect for dehydrated skin.  Can be used as a treatment under another moisturizer if you are more on the dry side.  I now have the large professional size of this at home and use as my day and night moisturizer.  It absorbs quickly, and helps my skin so much because I sweat a lot during hot yoga, so I feel like I need the perfect light hydrators, and this is amazing!  This is highly recommended for all skin types!

NEW!!  Bright Skin Overnight Correcting Cream

A night cream for hyperpigmentation is here!!  Brighten skin with this ultra-rich moisturizer formulated to address the look of hyperpigmentation while you sleep. It delivers potent actives that visibly reduce the look of age and dark spots for a luminous complexion. In combination with a Natural Hydroquinone Alternative, these actives create our most powerful skin brightening botanical blend to date.  The Bright Skin Collection is complete!  We now have cleanser, two targeted treatments, day cream, night cream, and masque.  If you are concerned with hyperpigmentation, the Bright Skin Collection is for you!

Rosehip & Lemongrass Lip Balm SPF 15

My clients have been asking for this for years!  Eminence lip balm in a convenient tube!  And this one has SPF!  Don’t forget about your lips when you’re out in the sun all day.  Toss the oxybenzones and petroleum products, and make sure you’re using organic and all-natural products, and a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide physical sunscreen.  It’s 2017 – time to kick the chemicals to the curb!

This Eminence Organic lip balm draws its moisturizing properties from ingredients like rosehip oil and organic extra virgin olive oil rather than petroleum, wax or lanolin. Formulated to smooth and hydrate dry lips, it’s enriched with rosehip oil packed with EFAs, vitamins C and E and betacarotene, and olive oil containing vitamins A and E for dry skin. These oils mimic the sebum naturally produced by our bodies, resulting in long-term hydration for the lips.

Organic skin care makes me happy!  I’m of the philosophy that less is more.  By less, I mean less clutter in my bathroom.  Not less when it comes to performance and active ingredients.  I do collect  Eminence skincare products, but I budget and plan to purchase 2-3 new products every quarter.  I choose my new products based on what my skin is like for that season.  Then I enjoy my skin care ritual every day, and a full at-home facial on Sundays.
Let us help you with customized organic products just for your skin!  And then enjoy your ritual at home as part of your self-care regiment.

Seasonal Transition Skin Care

So, we’re at that time of year, in between seasons, when the weather is confused and so is our skin.  I want to highlight a few products that are sure to keep your skin fresh and clear, and ready to transition into the season.

Pear & Poppyseed Microderm Polisher

This is a pretty amazing, somewhat aggressive exfoliant.  This is Eminence’s answer to microdermabrasion.  In fact, they compare the results of two swipes of a microderm machine with a manual exfoliation (at home) for 5-10 minutes.  Éminence Pear and Poppy Seed Microderm Polisher exfoliates and smoothes while protecting the complexion from damaging free radicals that cause premature aging. Its skin brightening formula polishes dull, dry skin for a rejuvenated appearance. All that’s left is a soft, supple complexion.

Ideal for most skin types, this microdermabrasion scrub is formulated with natural ingredients to polish the complexion. Poppy seeds and fine walnut gently exfoliate, apricot kernel oil softens and soothes skin, alfalfa extract nourishes and green tea, pear and apple extracts offer antioxidant protection from free radicals.

When your skin seems confused, or just blah, this is the product for you.  Slough away dead skin, and brighten things back up.  Ideal use is once a week.

Hungarian Herbal Mud Treatment

I am loving Hungarian Herbal Mud right now.  I just feel like my skin needs stimulated, but I also need some mud to help detoxify, and draw out impurities, oil, and toxins from my skin.  This spicy hot treatment is exactly what I need when my skin is confused, dull, and I have some stray blemishes here and there.

World-famous Hungarian thermal mud benefits all skin types by naturally detoxifying the skin, opening pores, eliminating toxins and increasing circulation. Cinnamon gives antibacterial properties, ivy is high in vitamin C, sage tones and heals, and paprika gives stimulation and natural antioxidants. Skin will be left soft, supple and glowing from within.

Lime Stimulating Masque

If blemishes aren’t your problem, but aging and hormonal skin are, this is the treatment for you.  Everyone can benefit from this stimulating, hormone-balancing treatment, but it’s especially beneficial if you want firmer, lifted skin and that rosy glow that comes from a great facial with some heat stimulation.

Revitalize and brighten your complexion with our Lime Stimulating Masque. The natural phytohormones and vitamins will leave your skin appearing rosy with increased circulation. Note that this active masque will leave a normal redness for up to two hours after treatment.

Strawberry Rhubarb Masque

My all-time favorite masque, and a favorite to sleep in as an overnight treatment.  This masque very gently exfoliates the skin with lactic acid, but also will plump up fine lines with hyaluronic acid.  I wake up and my skin is as smooth as a baby’s bottom….seriously.  This masque is beautiful for all skin types, as nearly everyone’s skin is dehydrated.

This rich and moisturizing mask revives the skin for a truly replenishing treatment. Strawberry extract exfoliates and penetrates pores to remove dirt and impurities and reveal new skin cells, while rhubarb tones and heals. The antioxidant-rich mask helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and hydrate the skin for a truly fresh face.

Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil

The Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil is an effective facial treatment comprised of a blend of results-oriented actives and ingredients that provide intense hydration and protection. Designed as a complementary product to the Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum, this facial oil fights the signs of aging, smooths wrinkles and hydrates deeply. For use with all skin types.

Increase collagen production and soothe skin with Eminence Rosehip Triple C + E Firming Oil. With its multiple botanical forms of vitamins C and E, including rosehip, jojoba and seabuckthorn oils, this non-greasy facial oil provides intense hydration while protecting skin against environmental stressors. The nourishing formula also helps to fight glycation and improve the appearance of redness and inflammation, making it ideal for sensitive skin. With regular use, you can diminish fine lines and wrinkles and achieve a healthy, youthful complexion.

Enjoy all these seasonal & transitional favorites.  These are all amazing to add to your Eminence collection.  You can request the use of any and all of these products when you come in for a customized Eminence facial at Riversong Spa.
